BACKGROUND
Peter YoungPeter YoungPeter Young I came to filmmaking the long way round, spending the first ten years of my working life mustering, shearing and fencing all over New Zealand - hard, physical graft but enjoyable. Over that time I developed a strong connection to the land and the people that work on it. I have never strayed too far from that, even with my shift into the film and television industry.

My first real job was in 1989 writing and directing wildlife programmes at TVNZ's Natural History Unit in Dunedin. After a few years I was drawn to the camera - at that stage I was working for Taylormade Productions and I left directing to cut my teeth as a cameraman in news and current affairs at TV3. I did that for four years before establishing my own company Fisheye Films in 1997 working as a freelancer.

Since then I have been shooting for numerous companies in New Zealand and around the world having worked on well over a hundred documentaries - art, wildlife, human interest and historical. I have also shot numerous commercials, music videos and the odd drama. View my bio for more details and showreels for the completed works.

Currently I'm producing/shooting series III of an adventure/travel/food series called Hunger for the Wild. It plays on TV One and last year won Best Factual Series at the 2007 New Zealand Screen Awards.

Other recent projects include producing/shooting a documentary on The Ross Sea in Antarctica, a short film on Christchurch sand artist Peter Donnelly and shooting a high definition documentary on Sir Edmond Hillary which played recently on TVNZ.

It's an interesting mix and I really enjoy the variety but what gives the most satisfaction is telling great New Zealand stories and capturing the images to go with them. You'll find a good few here and I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I do creating them.
